Penzance Town Crier scoops top prize at Ilminster

Published: 16th May 2022 in category: Council News, Town Crier

The annual Town Crier Competition took place in Ilminster which attracts Town Criers from far and wide to compete for the coveted title of ‘Best Crier’!

One of the most successful Town Crier’s Competitions in the South of England, around 20 criers descend on the town of Ilminster in South Somerset each year to compete for title of ‘Best Crier’.

Our very own Town Crier, Phil Northcott, and his faithful consort, Rose Northcott, made the journey up across the Tamar to represent Penzance.

After a full day of cries, it was Phil who emerged victorious and was named this year’s Best Crier!

Additionally, Phil won the title of ‘Best Home Ambassador’ (the best home cry inviting people to visit Penzance). And, the ‘Best Dressed Couple’ was awarded to Phil and Rose.

Everyone at Penzance Council are incredibly proud of Phil and Rose and send them many congratulations!
