What happens at a Town Meeting?

The Annual Town Meeting is your chance to meet your Councillors, get an overview of the work of the Council from the past year, our services, and our plans for the future. It’s also an opportunity for you to raise matters with the Council and ask questions.

This year we will also be joined by representatives of the Penzance Regeneration Company, Jubilee Pool, and Penzance BID who will be giving updates on their projects and on their plans for the coming year.

After each presentation, we will open the floor for a short open Q&A session. This is your chance to ask your questions directly to Penzance Council, Councillors, local business owners, educational organistions, and local stakeholders who are working together to deliver ambitious plans and make our parish community a better place to live, work and grow.

Grant recipients from the past year will also be giving presentations on how Penzance Council’s grant funding has been used to help local residents and our local environment.

Who is the meeting for?

All residents of the Penzance Parish which includes:

  • Penzance Town
  • Newlyn
  • Mousehole
  • Paul village
  • Sheffield
  • Heamoor
  • Gulval
  • Eastern Green

The easiest way to check if you are a resident in the Penzance Parish is to check your Council Tax Bill (in the breakdown of charges at the top of the letter, Penzance Town Council will be listed).

If you live in Long Rock, Ludgvan, Madron, or Drift you do not live in the Parish of Penzance and your Council Tax is paid to a different Parish Council. To view the parish boundaries please visit Cornwall Council’s interactive map.

How to ask questions

If you already have a question in mind, or you are unable to make the meeting, you can contact us in advance and we will add your name and question to the running order.

However, you don’t have to ask to speak in advance – if you want to come along on the night, listen to the presentations and then ask a question that’s absolutely fine!

A transcript of all questions and responses will be published on our website after the meeting.

“In an age of misinformation, it really matters that citizens can put direct questions to their local representatives and get direct answers. And there’s a lot going on in the Penzance parish right now, so I’m really pleased that the Regeneration Company, the Jubilee Pool and BID will be joining us” said Cllr Stephen Reynolds, Mayor of Penzance.

“The Annual Town Meeting is a great opportunity not only for the public to learn about what’s happening locally – but also for us to hear from the public.”

Penzance belongs to everyone and we should all have a voice in its future!
