The promenade is the only Victorian promenade in Cornwall and one of the ‘jewels in the crown’ for Penzance.
In recent years, it has suffered considerable storm damage, but a £1.4 million scheme has made much needed improvements to the condition and resilience of the promenade.
We contributed £65,800 to ensure that new flagpoles, benches and pebble seats were included as part of the project.
The renovations are part of a larger regeneration and coastal protection scheme proposed by the Environment Agency.
More information about the renovations can be found on Cormac’s website.
Following the announcement that the Tour of Britain 2020 will be postponed until 2021 due to the Coronavrius, we are proud to say that Penzance will still host the formal launch of the race in September 2021.
The event will see riders cycling across our promenade and the harbour front, through Market Jew Street, and out towards St Just where the official start will take place.
We are contributing up to £10,000 to Cornwall Council to help cover the costs of staging the Cornwall stage of the race.
