Penzance Town Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

Following a comprehensive accessibility audit and remediation phase, the website achieved a 9.5/10 automated compliance score, passed all manual WCAG 2.2 criteria checks, and successfully resolved all critical accessibility and contrast errors.

Following the most recent development updates, including the replacement of inaccessible third-party authentication scripts, there are currently no known areas of non-compliance on the website.

What We Are Doing to Maintain Accessibility

Achieving compliance is an ongoing commitment. To ensure the website remains accessible as new content is added, the Council adheres to the following guidelines:

Images and Media: All new images must include meaningful alternative (alt) text. We have also implemented automated fallbacks to ensure images always have a description.
Documents: We are committed to ensuring new PDFs and documents are published with
accessible tags, logical reading orders, and proper heading structures.
Video Content: We strive to ensure all published video content includes accurate captions.
Continuous Testing: We conduct regular accessibility audits using evaluation tools and manual testing every six months, or whenever significant changes are made to the site’s design or functionality.
