Very much a working port, Newlyn is a hive of activity with its main focus fixed on the Fish Market, where freshly caught fish is sold daily. Its proud fishing heritage and local produce is celebrated every August at Newlyn Fish Festival, when thousands of visitors flood the narrow streets and all funds raised are donated to the Fisherman’s Mission
Newlyn is also famous for the Newlyn School: a group of artists who were active in the area approximately between 1880-1940. Penlee House Gallery & Museum has a gallery that exclusively displays works by members of the Newlyn School from their permanent collection.
