The inaugural Penzance Food Festival in 2024 was always going to be a hard act to follow, with its Indian Summer vibes and hazy, sun-drenched afternoons. But where the weather tried to dampen spirits in Penlee Park this year, the atmosphere shone brightly through, making the event another gastronomic success for the town.

In-between the odd shower, the park was filled with welly-wearing foodies for three days, taking their time to choose from the menu of top quality stalls, or working up a hunger at the chefs’ demonstrations.

This year, the sauna felt more luxurious with the hint of winter. The bands sounded better with the added squelching from a muddy dance floor. And, sitting at a table with friends, enjoying a beer and a delicious dinner, the sun felt even more special as it broke through the clouds and the trees, and bathed the food festival in golden light.

Penzance Food Festival is run by Barney Farnworth, Oona Burch and Harry James-Mills, who also put on the Falmouth Food Festival and Newquay Food Festival. Set in Penlee Park, the festival works with traders who champion sustainable, locally sourced ingredients in line with Penzance’s Plastic Free status.
