A list of road closures and restrictions in Penzance for Golowan 2024

Here you’ll find a list of the road closures and restrictions planned for the Golowan Festival in Penzance which runs from Sunday 23rd to Sunday 30th June 2024.

Sunday 23rd – Monday 1st July: Battery Road

Battery Road will be closed from Sunday 23rd June at midnight – Monday 1st July at 11am for the fun fair. Diversions will be in place.

Sunday 23rd June

Civic Parade:

A rolling road closure will be in operation on Alverton Street, Market Place, The Greenmarket, Market Jew Street from 10:30 – 10:45am.

St John’s Eve Torch Lit Procession:

Chapel Street and Quay Street will be closed from 8pm – midnight.

One-Way Restriction:

Harbour Court, Access to Abbey Slip and Abbey Slip Penzance between the junctions of Chapel Street and Jennings Street in a north to south westerly direction from 8pm – midnight.

Friday 28th June – Mazey Eve

Mazey Eve Fireworks:

Coinagehall Street, Quay Street, The Quay, Green Street, Dock Lane, Promenade, Battery Road, Wharf Road, Under Chapel Yard and Chapel Steet will be closed from 8pm – midnight.

Saturday 29th June – Mazey Day

Blanket closures:

Causewayhead, Alverton Street, The Greenmarket, Princes Street, New Street, Queens Square length, Market Jew Street, Clarence Street, Market Place, Parade Street, Chapel Street and Bread Street will be closed from 6am – 7pm.

Closures for the parades:

  • Albert Street and Station Road: 11:20am – 11:40am, 1:20pm – 1:40pm, and 3:20pm to 3:40pm
  • Morrab Road (between Alverton Street and Victoria Place): 10:00am to 4:00pm
  • Guildhall Road: 10:30am – 3:30pm

One-Way Restriction:

Harbour Court, Access to Abbey Slip and Abbey Slip Penzance between the junctions of Chapel Street and Jennings Street in a north to south westerly direction from 7am – 7pm.

Sunday 30th June – Quay Fair Day

Blanket closures:

The Promenade between Morrab Road and Alexandra Road, Coinagehall Street, Quay Street, The Quay, Green Street, Dock Lane, Promenade, Battery Road, Wharf Road, Under Chapel Yard and Chapel Street will be closed from 7am – 7pm.

One-Way Restriction:

Harbour Court, Access to Abbey Slip and Abbey Slip Penzance between the junctions of Chapel Street and Jennings Street in a north to south westerly direction from 7am – 7pm.

Golowan Festival receives grant funding from Penzance Council. This year we are providing £34,300 in grant funding to Golowan Festival CIC (which includes funding for a youth engagement project ‘Golowan Youth Take Over’ and the famous fireworks on Mazey Eve!)
