Golowan Festival 2020 Cancellation

19th March 2020 in Covid-19, Events

Golowan 2020 has been cancelled to protect the health of local residents, performers and spectators from the impact of the coronavirus.

It is with great sadness that Golowan Festival CIC and Penzance Council can confirm this year’s Golowan festival has been cancelled to protect the health of local residents, performers and spectators from the impact of the coronavirus.

This year’s festival was due to run from Saturday, 20 June until Sunday 28 June. A major fixture in the summer calendar, both for Penzance and for the whole of Cornwall, Golowan attracts thousands of people from across the UK and overseas, generating more than £1m for the local economy.

We were looking forward to welcoming the many performers who bring a fantastic programme of music, theatre, procession, fireworks and street events to our parish, including schools and local community groups, as well as the enthusiastic spectators.

This is an action we had hoped to avoid but unfortunately the escalating situation means that we have no choice but to cancel the event. Making the decision now will help avoid any further uncertainty.

This would have been the 30th festival since its revival and we share the disappointment we know will be felt by everyone involved . We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by this decision and  thank everyone for their understanding.  This was a very difficult decision to make but our priority has to be the protection of public health in these difficult times.

We know that many people and organisations have been working very hard to prepare for this year’s festival during the past few months and we look forward to working with them to stage an even bigger and better event next year.
