Under the ‘adopt a kiosk scheme’ we have now officially taken over the red telephone boxes at the top of Market Jew Street.

At the 19 July Full Council meeting, Councillors voted unanimously to adopt the two telephone kiosks on Market Jew Street for community use.

What is the ‘adopt a kiosk scheme’?

BT‘s Adopt a Kiosk scheme enables local communities to retain their iconic red kiosks and give them a new lease of life for the benefit of everyone.

Thousands of communities across the UK have already come up with a fantastic array of ideas to re-use their local phone box including:

  • Installing Defibrillators
  • Creating miniature art galleries
  • Book swaps
  • Floral displays

What are the plans for the kiosks?

The Penzance Community Flora Group have some exciting plans in the pipeline to turn one of the boxes into a giant floral planter and to install a defibrillator in the other – something like these:

How can you get involved?

The Flora Group are holding an open meeting on Tuesday 14 September at Waves Cafe on Causewayhead from 5:30pm.
