Our amazing Leisure & Amenities Team have done it again!
Penlee Park has been awarded five stars in the Pride in Parks Award by South West in Bloom – one of eighteen competitions that make up the RHS Britain in Bloom for the fourth year running!
To achieve the award, the team had to meet various assessment criteria including the involvement of the local community; maintenance and development of the gardens; and commitment to maintaining areas such as park benches and limiting litter.
“We were very pleased to receive a 5-star rating from the Pride in Parks Awards for the fourth year in a row” said Amy Simons, Operations Manager for Penzance Council.
“This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our small Leisure & Amenities Team who not only look after Penlee Park, but many other areas within the Parish of Penzance.
“It’s been a huge effort across the whole team, to not only achieve 5-star status, but to maintain it year on year.”
The Penzance Council Leisure & Amenities Team work all year round to maintain and improve the gardens of Penlee Park for all residents and visitors to the Penzance Parish. They are also responsible for maintaining the newly refurbished Alexandra Play Park & Tennis Courts, Penlee Open Air Theatre, Penzance Jewish Cemetery, Heamoor Old School Field, Foxes Lane Playpark in Mousehole, Wherrytown Skateboard Plaza, 7 public toilets, and street weeding covering around 120km of pavements across the Parish – from Mousehole to Gulval!

The team will continue with their work to create rewilding areas in the park to help our pollinators and are looking to achieve the coveted Green Flag Award for Penlee Park in the coming year.
