On Friday 6 June, the Mayor of Penzance Stephen Reynolds and Town Clerk James Hardy attended a special award ceremony at Newlyn Old Harbour where the Cornish fishing vessel Barnabas was appointed by Hannah Cunliffe from National Historic Ships UK to act as one of its four national Flagships of the Year for 2025.
Built in 1881 in St Ives, Barnabas is now owned and operated by The Cornish Maritime Trust from Newlyn Harbour, who are teaching the unique skills of sailing and preserving traditional boats to the local community.
