Penzance Council has a number of events planned as the Parish prepares to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Remembrance Sunday – Sunday 10 November
The Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service will take place on Sunday 10 November.
The service will take place outdoors at the War Memorial at Battery Rocks and will be led by Rev Howard Peskett. The Council is pleased to confirm the Cornish language will again feature prominently in the service.
Key timings on Remembrance Sunday
10:15am – The Civic Parade will form-up in the forecourt of St John’s Hall
10:35am – The Parade will set off for the march to The War Memorial at Battery Rocks
10:50am – Remembrance Service & wreath laying
Members of the public are very welcome to watch the parade and attend the service.
Following the service, Penzance Royal British Legion will be providing refreshments and a buffet at their clubhouse on Bread Street which everyone is welcome to attend.
Road Closure on Remembrance Sunday
A rolling road closure will be in place from 10:30am – 11am which includes:
- Alverton Street
- The Greenmarket
- Market Place
- Chapel Street
- Under Chapel Yard
- Battery Road (from the junction of Under Chapel Yard to the War Memorial)
Armistice Day – Monday 11 November
11am – Two-Minute Silence
There will be a short service led by Rev Howard Peskett and Pastor Charles Fleming, Chaplain to the Mayor of Penzance, followed by a two-minute silence observed at 11am on Monday 11 November at the Memorial Gardens in Penlee Park.
Members of the public are welcome to attend and are invited to gather in the gardens from 10.45am.
