Be A Councillor Event

13th January 2021 in Events

A livestreamed event, hosted by Cornwall Council, for anyone interested in becoming a Councillor

Cornwall needs all kinds of people to stand to become a Councillor. The qualities you need are a desire and passion to make a difference and improve the community you represent.

On Saturday 16 January Cornwall Council are holding a special ‘live event’ so that people interested in standing for election can learn more about what it is like to be a Councillor.

The event will be hosted by the Chairman of Cornwall Council, Councillor Hilary Frank and contributors including the Chief Executive, Kate Kennally, the Service Director for Assurance, Melanie O’Sullivan and Sarah Mason the Executive Officer for CALC the Cornwall Association of Local Councils.

At the event you will hear about Cornwall Council, it’s work and the challenges it faces. You will also find out more about the role of a Councillor and the support that enables Councillors to carry out their role alongside a busy personal life. Sarah Mason will explain the role of a Town or Parish Councillor and the important part they play in their local communities.

There will be opportunity for you to put your questions live (in writing) via the question and answer portal to a panel of serving Councillors.
