Bird Flu is circulating the Penzance area – here’s what to do if you find a sick or dead wild bird
What to do if you find a sick or dead wild bird:
If you find a sick or dead wild bird, don’t touch it and please report it to DEFRA on this number 03459 33 55 77 (select option 7).
Once you’ve done that:
- If it’s on Penzance Council land, please contact us so we can remove it. You can find a list of what areas we are responsible for on our Who Does What page
- If it’s on Cornwall Council land, please let them know so they can remove it. You can report it to them online and pinpoint the location. If you don’t have access to the internet please call Cornwall Council’s Refuse & Recycling Team: 0300 1234 141
- If the dead bird is on private land, you need to report it to the landowner
- If you find a dead bird on your property, and DEFRA is unable to remove it, please follow DEFRA’s guidance on how to safely dispose of it
