Brilliant turn out for ‘Save Our Ticket Office’ Demonstration

9th August 2023 in Events, Local News, Penzance

A big crowd gathered outside Penzance Train Station this morning in support of our town’s ticket office

‘Save Our Ticket Office’ Demonstration

The Mayor of Penzance, Cllr Stephen Reynolds, joined Mick Lynch (RMT Union General Secretary), Barry West (RMT Union Regional Organiser) and others to speak about why our ticket office, and all ticket offices, are so important to the communities they serve!

The staffed ticket office at Penzance Train Station provides an invaluable service to residents and visitors alike, and closing the ticket office windows would disproportionately affect the more vulnerable in our community, especially the digitally excluded.

What are we doing as a council?

At our last Full Council meeting on Monday 17 July 2023, Penzance Councillors unanimously voted to support the retention of the existing staffed ticket office counter service at Penzance Railway Station and objects to the proposed ticket office closure.

They also voted to delegated authority to the Town Clerk to respond to the ongoing consultation on rail ticket office closures, and to communicate the council’s objection to the proposed closure to the management of GWR – you can read the full minutes of the meeting here (Item 39(h) on Page 30).

Penzance Council will do everything within its power to oppose the closure of the ticket office!

Make sure you have your say in the consultation!
