Cornwall Council have now opened their public consultation on the proposed Cornwall Devolution Deal which would include an elected Mayor for the Duchy
You may have seen in the news lately that the Government and Cornwall Council have negotiated a proposed Devolution Deal for Cornwall.
The Government has set an important condition for the Cornwall Devolution Deal: Cornwall Council would need to change the way the Council is governed, from the current system of a Council Leader, elected by the 87 Cornwall Councillors every year, to a Mayor directly elected by the people of Cornwall every four years.
A public consultation on the proposed Cornwall Devolution Deal is now open!
It’s very important that residents get involved in this consultation as the proposed Deal would mean a big change for everyone living and working in the Duchy – this is your chance to have your say!

Cornwall Council have produced a ‘Consultation Document’ where they explain what the Deal would do and the governance changes required:
