Wet tails were wagging once again on Sunday 3 November, as Jubilee Pool held its much anticipated annual Dog Day for swimmers’ best friends. Now in its sixth year, the ‘pawsome’ event saw hundreds of pups taking the plunge for a day of doggy paddling at the iconic Art Deco lido in Penzance.
Despite a chill in the air on the last day of Half Term, most dogs were quick to dive in at the deep end, whilst some needed a bit of gentle persuasion from their wetsuit-clad owners.
Penzance Council has been a long-term supporter of the pool as a community facility and have allocated £40,000 of funding for this financial year to help towards the costs of the Jubilee Pool’s winter maintenance, subsidised entry for adults living in the parish, and to continue the PZ Under 16s Free Swim scheme, providing free access to Jubilee Pool for all under 16s in the Penzance Parish.
Following the event, Nicola Murdoch, CEO of Jubilee Pool commented:
“Dog Day 2024 was super successful and was a great finish to our summer season. In its 6th year, it’s a real highlight of our event calendar and loved by locals and visitors alike.
“We now move into the winter months, where although our Geothermal pool will be closed for the duration, we are happy to be able to offer Cold Water swimming sessions on a couple of mornings a week. We are also excited to host Full Moon events, and Cold dips on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.
“Our iconic cafe will also remain open, serving delicious food, drinks and providing a local venue for live music sessions and Christmas parties.
“We really appreciate all the local support we have, from both local residents, business, and of course Penzance Council. And hope to see as many of you as possible over the winter months.”
