Independent Senior Management Review – statement from Penzance Council

4th August 2021 in Council News

A final decision on the independent Senior Management Team review has not yet been made and remains a confidential staffing issue.

The legislation which has already appeared in other news articles on this topic has been misquoted in isolation from the rest of the Local Government Finance Act 1988. Under Section 111 of the Act, town and parish councils are not listed as organisations which require a Responsible Finance Officer to be a qualified member of one of the accountancy institutes (the only exception being the Council of the Isles of Scilly).

The matter will next be discussed at an Extraordinary Full Council meeting on Tuesday 10 August (an agenda and Councillor summons will be sent out later today which will also be publicly available on the Council website: https://www.penzance-tc.gov.uk/meetings/). As the agenda item will refer to current members of staff, the press and public will be excluded from that part of the meeting.

Any further press and public enquiries should be directed to the Penzance Council Office – Email: [email protected] or Tel: 01736 363405
