Penlee Park has been awarded five stars in the Pride in Parks Award by South West in Bloom, one of eighteen competitions that make up RHS Britain in Bloom.
To achieve the Pride in Parks Award, the team had to meet various assessment criteria including the involvement of the local community; maintenance and development of the gardens; and commitment to maintaining areas such as park benches and limiting litter.
The judges praised the park’s wide variety of trees, well-maintained grass areas, and the ongoing improvement works of the Head Gardener.
“I visited the park recently with a friend from Helston whilst socially distancing. She was most impressed with the park and said she looked forward to returning” said Councillor Bonnie Jackson, Chair of the Leisure & Amenities Committee. “Staff were working there at the time and I have to say were very professional. We have many lovely parks in our area, and we should all be very proud of all the work gardeners (and volunteers) undertake. Well done everyone”!
Our team of gardeners and maintenance staff work all year round to maintain and improve the gardens of Penlee Park for all residents and visitors in Penzance. For many, getting out and appreciating nature has been key to maintaining good mental health during the Covid-19 pandemic. The team have been working tirelessly throughout to ensure that the park has been open and safe for everyone to use and enjoy.
Our team are already looking ahead to new projects over the coming year with a view to obtaining Green Heritage Site Accreditation in the future.
