Councillors have unanimously voted to award a further £10,000 of grant funding to support the Penzance & Newlyn Youth Project

At the last Finance & General Purposes Committee meeting in August, Councillors unanimously voted to award a further £10,000 of grant funding to Kesoberi CIC to continue to provide their youth project in Penzance and Newlyn.

Earlier this year, Penzance Council provided £5,000 in grant funding to help Kesoberi CIC keep their vital service running and to assist with bid writing to secure further funding from other organisations.

Pz and Newlyn Youth Project was set up in December 2022 following discussions with parents, business owners, councillors and local Police after it became increasingly clear that the young people of Penzance and Newlyn needed a warm, dry, safe space to be in the evenings immediately. The youth club is designed to be an open-door facility which provides meaningful, enriching activities for young people who may be at risk of exploitation if out on the streets or poor mental health if isolated in their homes.

The youth sessions run twice a week:

  1. Thursday evenings (6-8pm mixed ages) at The Centre Newlyn
  2. Friday evenings at the Sea Cadets – Penzance Unit building, Jennings Street, TR18 2LU (6-7:30pm for Yrs 7-9 | 7:30-9 for Yrs 10+)
Penzance and Newlyn Youth Club.

Thursday evenings (6-8pm) at The Centre Newlyn ; Friday evenings at the @Sea Cadets - Penzance Unit building (6-7:30pm for Yrs 7-9 | 7:30-9 for Yrs 10+)
