Promenade banners lowered due to forecasted gales

Published: 29th July 2021 in category: Council News, Penzance

The Promenade Banners will be temporarily lowered due to the forecasted gales and wind gusts of over 50mph this evening.

Due to the exposed coastal location of the Promenade, if winds are gusting above 35mph, the banners need to be temporarily lowered. This is on the recommendation of the flagpole manufacturer to protect the integrity of the poles and will also prevent accidental damage to the fabric of the promenade.

The rigging costs for both the town and promenade banners for this year is £5,800 – this includes any additional lowering and reinstating due to poor weather conditions (we are not charged for individual call outs to remove/reinstate banners).

The banners will also be having some maintenance work carried out by designer Lucy Birbeck and will be reinstated as soon as possible.
