Brian Spiegelhalter Citizen of the Year Awards 2023 - voting now open!

The Brian Spiegelhalter Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards are back for 2023 and we want to celebrate the people that went the extra mile in 2022 for our Parish!

The nominations are in and now it’s over to you – the public – to vote for the Citizen of the Year 2023! There will be no public vote for the Young Citizen of the Year Award as we only received one nomination this year.

The nominees are:

  • Jean Andrews – for her volunteer work at Princess May Recreation Ground, Penzance
  • Tracey Opie – for her work to support people’s health and wellbeing in Penzance
  • Terry Sampson – for his years of volunteering with the Golowan Festival and for creating the Golowan archive
  • Matthew Thompson – for his volunteer work at the Rosebud Gardens & Bowjey Wood, Newlyn

How to vote:

Voting is open until midnight on Wednesday 26 April 2023.

You can vote online or call the Council Offices on 01736 363405 (Mon – Fri, 9am – 5pm) to cast your vote.

To ensure fairness in the voting process, in the online poll, you must include your full email address and your full postcode to cast your vote. Where a full email address and full Penzance Parish postcode have not been given, your vote will not be counted. For those who would like to vote by phone you must provide your full name and full Penzance Parish postcode. The postcode can be for your residential address, place of work, or place of study but it must be within the Parish of Penzance.

When will the winner be announced?

The winner of the Citizen of the Year will be announced at the Annual Town Council on Tuesday 9 May 2023 where they, along with the Young Citizen of the Year, will be presented with their awards by the newly elected Mayor of Penzance.
