20th May 2022 in Events, Local News

As part of the national celebrations, there are lots of events being planned to mark HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in the Penzance Parish!

To kick off proceedings, on Thursday 2nd June the Town Crier will be travelling around the Parish on an e-bike kindly provided by Ebike Cornwall, to perform an official Proclamation Cry in the following locations:

  • 2pm – Market House, Market Jew Street
  • 2:30pm – Jubilee Pool, Penzance
  • 3:15pm – Newlyn War Memorial
  • 4pm – Mousehole Harbour

Then – at 9:45pm – four Jubilee Beacons, funded by Penzance Council, will be lit at: St Mary’s Church, Humphry Davy School, Newlyn Harbour, and Mousehole Harbour. The Mayor of Penzance will be lighting the beacon at St Mary’s Church and will be accompanied by the Town Crier for a second Jubilee Cry!

On Saturday 4th June, Penzance Council will be hosting a Platinum Communi-Tea Party in Morrab Gardens from 11am – 3pm. Organised in partnership with Pengarth Day Centre, and featuring live performances from The Big Dance Company, Penzance Silver Band, Humphry Davy School, and Pensans Morris, the Communi-Tea Party will provide something for everyone to celebrate this historic occasion!

Entry to the Communi-Tea party is free and there will be live music and dance throughout the day at the bandstand, with complimentary cream tea and hot drink provided by Pengarth Day Centre (limited availabilty, first come first served). There will also be a traditional summer fete around the newly refurbished water fountain organised by Mounts Bay and Penzance Rotary Clubs.

Cllr Jonathan How, Mayor of Penzance said “not many heads of state ever get to ‘go platinum’ and it’s great that something will be happening in every part of Penzance Parish to mark this astonishing achievement!”

We have created a page on our website for events taking place around the Parish (including Newlyn, Mousehole, Paul, Heamoor, and Gulval) over the special extended bank holiday weekend Thursday 2 – Sunday 5 June 2022: Platinum Jubilee Events in Penzance
